This is one of the best outdoor winter adventures in Waterton that is suitable for all ages!

The trail starts at the end of Akamina road. Keep going until you see a barricade, which is the starting point of your 45 minute trek to the lake. You can snowshoe this or cross-country ski along the groomed trail. Another option is to walk along the riverbank and listen to water flowing underneath the icy layer. Make sure to pack a picnic so when you reach the lake, you can enjoy a warm soup or hot chocolate as you soak up this stunning frozen wonderland.

If you want to add more steps to meet your Fitbit goals, you can walk around the lake before heading back. This provides another beautiful perspective for your memory collection.

There are other trails along the Akamina parkway to extend your winter experience. Please review Trail Condition Reports and Avalanche Terrain Ratings before you begin. Please visit Parks Canada Winter Safety for more information.
