Do you like road trips? Do you long for stretches of pavement that lead to new worlds, new perspectives – fresh points of view? Roadways can be magical, especially when they lead to something that’s as naturally extraordinary as Cameron Lake.

The trek from Waterton town site to Cameron Lake is an unforgettable 16 kilometer drive that winds and twist gently forward revealing one breathtaking vista after another. It’s the kind of drive that seeps inot your bones. It sticks with you long after you’ve left the road behind; snapshots in your memory that are postcard perfect forever.

Don’t overlook the monument to Oil City on the drive. It marks western Canada’s first oil well – an important symbol of the culture in the region, and its a National Historic site too.

Cameron Lake rests at the end of the road – an aquamarine jewel nestled in the basin of a Rocky Mountain theatre. When you’re here, you’re 1,646 meters (5,400 feet) above sea level, and the air definitely reflects it. Picnic on the shore, explore a lakeside trail, or venture out onto the water’s surface in a paddleboat or kayak. To discover Cameron Lake is to surrender to wonder of the mountains. Take it in, and you’re changed forever.
