To really experience why Waterton is where the mountains meet the prairies.

This unique road winds its way up the Blakiston valley and is the access to many of Waterton’s favourite day hikes. The road is an adventure itself and is perfect place to hike or bike as it is open to non-motorized traffic only. Follow the 9 km/5.5 mile road and it’s rolling hills that run through the diverse grassland prairie. Stop at one of the many pullouts to admire the wildflowers that grow in abundance. See a beaver dam in the creek below or learn about an indigenous Buffalo jump once located atop one of the bluffs. See Argillite, an iron rich red rock, run through the layers of mountains that surround you as you wind up the valley. The turnoff for Crandell Lake and the loop greets you as the road access ends, so continue your journey this way or follow the road back to the entrance road. In the winter months the road turns into a popular cross-country ski and snowshoe track, so you can see breathtaking views with a wintery coat.
