Wildlife Viewing

C. Bergman

Whether you actively seek out wildlife or allow it to happen organically, a sighting can certainly add to the ambiance of your quiet vacation in Waterton in the winter. Deer and bighorn sheep are the most common, especially right in the town site. Although you may be the only people visiting the town, you may have to share it with these mild in nature creatures that often make an appearance. They are not shy and may even stay still long enough to pose proudly for a photo.
If viewing Wildlife in Waterton is on your bucket list be sure to check out the Blakiston Fan, which is south of the Entrance Parkway, between Lower and Middle Waterton Lakes. If you are lucky, you may spot elk crossing the Waterton River if you stand at the Gate area. If you really want to add to the experience, grab a mug of something hot, snuggle in and enjoy nature in its purest form.
