Akamina Parkway (OPEN)

Trail Type

  • Scenic Drives & Roads

This scenic parkway is open to non-motorized traffic only and is the access road to the beautiful Cameron Lake and many trailheads. The road begins at the base of Crandell Mountain just by the entrance to the townsite. Hike or bike the roadway as it meanders up the Akamina valley, looking down to the creek below and up to the majestic peaks that surround you. Crandell Lake, Lineham Falls, Rowe Lakes and the Akamina Pass trailheads all are located along the parkway. See the recent burn of the Kenow Fire on the forest and enjoy the open vistas and breathtaking views of Cameron Creek as it flows beside the road. The 16 km/9.9 mile trip ends at Cameron Lake, a breathtaking alpine lake nestled at the rear of the valley. The trailhead to Summit Lake is located on the east side of the lake. Spend your day on one of the accessible trails or enjoy Cameron Lake, swimming, fishing or lounging at one of the picnic areas. The parkway is also open for winter access, so winter hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing the parkway are a great way to get out and enjoy the snow. This area is classified as a Backcountry Area and accessible trails are classified as Avalanche Terrain. Know your risks and terrain, be prepared and always check Parks Canada Avalanche forecasts before heading out.
