Bear's Hump (NOT OPEN)

Type of Hike

  • Short Hike

Trail Type

  • Moderate Hike

The most famous view and a definite favourite trail of locals and visitors alike. The Bear’s Hump trail starts at the parking area across from the Prince of Wales turn off. Make your way to the top on a short steep climb up a rocky trail to an outcropping on Crandell Mountain. It is known as Bear Mountain by the Blackfoot Indigenous peoples, and the mountain looks like the outline of a grizzly bear from a distance. Benches are located along the way if you need a break, and a final set of steps leads you up to the flat top of the “hump”. From here you will see one of the most iconic and recognised views of the Waterton Valley. This vantage point shows off the mountain peaks down the valley and views of the prairies to the north. Sit and enjoy the landscape that makes Waterton so unique.
