The longest day hike at Goat Haunt, Francis Lake offers breathtaking mountain scenery for those willing to take the long journey. Arrange to purchase a ticket with the local cruise company to get the earliest and latest departures for the Goat Haunt Ranger Station. This trail starts at the Goat Haunt Ranger station, follow the correct trail signs so that you pass over the wooden suspension bridge and soon thereafter diverge left at the Janet Lake junction. Follow the Janet Lake trail until you arrive at the lake. At this point you will continue heading west, passing through thick forests with little visibility. You will finally glimpse a view of the lake through the trees, but first you must traverse the length of the lake before arriving at the campground. From the campground you can venture below out onto a small alluvial fan to enjoy your lunch. Here you will be greeted by an abundance of cascading waterfalls plunging hundreds of feet above, fed by snowfield melt. The aquamarine color of Francis Lake is stunning under the summer sun, enjoy the refreshing plunge before the long journey back to Goat Haunt.
