Shortly thereafter the trail will come to a crossroad, take the left turn up to Janet Lake. Following switchbacks you will gently gain the majority of your elevation, as you ascend into the heavily glaciated valley. The trail will take you past a large rock slide area between the Citadel Peaks and Mt. Olsen.
